MODERN GILT SIDE CABINET

In order to maintain the tight tolerances and perfectly flat planes of the doors, this cabinet was built from MDF, taking advantage of the dimensional stability the material offers.  The piece was finished with a custom colored lacquer, which was then oil gilded.  The gilding was carefully rubbed through by hand, creating the organic rhythm of the gold and exposed red ground color.  This surface was then sealed with a catalyzed lacquer to provide a durable, maintenance free surface.
